At H2 Green Steel, we strive to be at the forefront of sustainable steel production. As part of our sustainability team, Malin Baltzar has a key role in this endeavor. She is responsible for defining sustainability targets and key stakeholder requirements, as well as building structure and supporting the business with a current focus on our project in Boden, northern Sweden.

Malin holds a Master’s degree in Ecosystem Technology from Lund University and has always had a strong interest in ecology and sustainability. Before joining H2 Green Steel, she worked as the Head of Sustainability at Stena Recycling Sweden, where she had the opportunity to shape and implement new services in waste optimization, sustainability education, and design for recycling.

In addition to sustainability, Malin also likes startups. Before being appointed as Head of Sustainability at Stena Recycling in 2020, she established a small consultancy team offering services within the circular economy. When the opportunity arose to join H2 Green Steel, she was driven by the wish to work for a business that will have a major positive impact on climate change and to be a part of building a new company with sustainability at its core. She also emphasizes the importance of sustainable materials and notes that the transition from recycling to sustainable steel production is not as great as one might think. “As the recycling business is highly linked to circular and fossil-free production of steel, the step wasn’t that big.”
“The best part is that we have seen a lot more progress following the workshop.”
One memorable moment to date was a two-day workshop held in Boden in November, where colleagues from different parts of the organization came together to discuss environment, health, safety, and local community engagement. The workshop was a success as it helped in agreeing on forms for future collaboration. “The best part is that we have seen a lot more progress following the workshop.”
